How long
extensions last

Bonded extensions are worn for two to four months, after which they need a correction. The limit is not the strength of the bond but how fast your hair grows: the bond travels down from the root with the hair, and once it has moved 3–4 cm the strands start tangling with each other at the base.

What a correction is and why it matters

A correction means removing the grown-out bonds, washing the hair and re-bonding the same strands. The donor hair is reused: a good weft survives three or four corrections. A skipped correction is the single biggest reason behind complaints that “extensions ruined my hair” — grown-out bonds mat together, and by then the tangle cannot be undone without losses.

Growth rates differ: 1–1.5 cm a month on average, but some people grow 2 cm. The faster your hair grows, the sooner the correction is due. Density matters too — on fine hair the bonds show sooner as they descend. High-heat styling, frequent washing in hot water and oils reaching the bonds all cut the term by a few weeks.

Three or four corrections — eight months to a year of wear on the same material. After that the ends are trimmed, the hair gets shorter, and at some point buying a new weft beats moving the old one. Good Slavic hair survives more cycles than Asian hair because it has not been acid-stripped of its cuticle.

Common questions

How long do hair extensions last?

Two to four months before the first correction. The term is set by how fast your hair grows rather than by bond quality: the bond descends with the hair and starts causing trouble after about 3–4 cm of growth.

What happens if you skip the correction?

Grown-out bonds start matting at the root. Removing them without losing your own hair becomes difficult, and the scalp may become irritated. This is exactly the scenario behind the claim that extensions damage hair.

Can extensions be removed early?

Yes, at any point. The bonds are softened with a dedicated fluid and crushed with pliers — it takes about an hour and does no damage. Removal costs the same whether you come back after one month or three.
